'Too Many Sopranos' is a recital series of semi-staged arias, duets and trios exploring the relationship between soprano characters in operas from Monteverdi to Menotti. Formed of three sopranos: Susanna MacRae, Olivia Doutney, Roxanne Korda and pianist John Cuthbert, 'Too Many Sopranos' are set to travel with their unique concert format over the U.K. and Channel Islands in 2016.
I Capuleti e I Montecchi by Bellini, performed August 28, 29, 30 and 31, 2015 was Microscopera's debut production. Dreamt up by sopranos Olivia Doutney and Susanna MacRae and joined by young singers from London, Dorset and Indonesia, Microscopera want to revitalize opera and bring it to new audiences. We do this by focussing on the relationships between characters and magnifying them in unusual ways that haven't been explored before. Are you a Montague or a Capulet? Can you empathise with the choice between lust and honour that Giuletta must face? Can you understand Romeo's motives? Or do you feel pitty for the loving and ever loyal Tebaldo?

Dreamt up by sopranos Olivia Doutney and Susanna MacRae, Microscopera want to revitalize opera and bring it to new audiences. We do this by focussing on the relationships between characters and magnifying them in unusual ways that haven't been explored before. We made our debut production in August 2015 performing I Capuleti e I Montecchi over four nights at New Unity, Islington. It received great reviews, praised for its originality, use of space and young singers. Microscopera have an exciting 2016 summer season planned featuring a 'double bill'; two short (watch this space!) one-act operas performed back-to-back in an enticing evening of opera.
'Susanna MacRae as Mabel has a thrilling voice with top notes that reminded me of "The Lark Ascending", so high and beautiful are they. A petite and pretty Mabel, who has grace, command and so much else in her slim frame, Susanna is clearly destined for a great career in music and theatre.'
